☑️Easy Button: A Tarot Reading Checklist

Hello Tarot Friends,

We have officially unthawed here in San Antonio and hot weather is right around the corner, I fear.

I still have lots to do in the yard before that happens!

Have you seen Venus shining oh so bright in the West with the waxing moon alongside her?

Do all your Venus oogling now because she will disappear from our skies in Mid March.

If you are starting seeds indoors, today (Wed) and Saturday and Sunday are great days with a waxing moon in water signs.

This class is still coming together and I will have more details for you soon. If you are chomping at the bit to get updates, you can join the waitlist.

Now for the Checklist

A large part of Jaw Dropping Tarot will be about how to actually "do" a reading. And for that I have created a checklist.

In today's newsletter, let's zoom in on step 1, before laying the cards.

Is the question clear?

Questions have power.

Imagine the Oracle sitting there, waiting. You mumble a half-baked question. The response? Equally muddled. Garbage in, garbage out.

Try to trick the Oracle? Good luck. It sees right through you. The trickster appears, mocking your attempts to manipulate.

Open ended questions such as, "What do I need to know right now?" are perfectly okay.

Just make sure you have a focal point before laying any cards.

Do the spread positions address the question?

Spread positions have power too!

Make sure your spread positions are clear and help illuminate the subject of the reading.

If you need help with spread positions, a spread deck might help.

For example if your question is: "Why is X suddenly ignoring me?" Some possible spread positions are:
  • You
  • X
  • what's the ignoring about
  • what is X thinking
  • what is X feeling
  • when will this resolve
  • what can I do to help resolve it

Go right for the throat and ask what you want to know.

Sure you could ask about past and future, but these positions are more vague and will be harder to interpret.

What cards do you expect to see?

This can be tricky if you are a beginner, but I invite you to take a stab at it.

Going back to the question, "Why is X suddenly ignoring me?". Some of the cards I might expect to see:
  • 2 of swords - has a decision to make
  • 10 of swords - it's over
  • 8 of pentacles - is distracted by work

The cards are full of surprises, but it doesn't hurt to anticipate what might come up.

Which cards might indicate a yes (or no)

Piggy-backing on the previous idea, what would a yes or favorable outcome look like in terms of cards? How about a no?

For the question about X, who is ignoring me:
  • 2 of swords - has a decision to make - neutral. Surrounding cards might indicate whether the decision is about me or not.
  • 10 of swords - negative - fairly strong indication that something has ended, probably the relationship, at least as it was.
  • 8 of pentacles - neutral to positive - distracted by work is better than losing interest (assuming I want the relationship to continue)

See how many nuances there are to each card in each position?

That's why it's a bit of a fool's folly to write a definition for 8 of pentacles in a love reading. There are many, many factors involved.

In my opinion, your time is better spent practicing reading then memorizing someone else's definitions.

In Jaw Dropping Tarot, there will be weekly practice sessions as well as reading buddies so you get plenty of experience with the cards in a safe, friendly environment.
