❗September Tarot Journal Blueprint

Hi There Tarot Friends,

I set up my Tarot journal every month with these 3 things:

  • monthly spread
  • reflections on the prior month
  • intentions/goals/spell work for the month ahead

Monthly Spread

I like to keep the monthly spread, and my spreads in general, short and sweet.

This month - a card for the month. You can pull from the Major Arcana only if you wish, or any portion of the deck. The purpose is to give a flavor of the month ahead.

Biggest challenge and biggest victory are self explanatory. Do your intentions/goals/spell work align with these 2 cards?

Think of the monthly spread as a way to help dial in your action path for the month ahead.

The final card, action, can help suggest a first step or the type of actions to take for the month.

Sometimes we feel like we want to go, go, go but the monthly spread will indicate it’s better to sit back and wait for a better weather, or settle something on an internal level first.

Other suggestions for the final card:

  • helpers - who can help you on your path
  • what if - to help you look at other possibilities
  • give - how or what to give of yourself

You get the idea.

Intentions/Goals/Spell Work

For this section, I write out 3-5 focal points for the month ahead.

The most interesting part of this practice for me is I can see right off the bat how focused or scattered I am.

If I’ve got a lot of items and have a hard time narrowing it down, that’s telling me I have some decisions to make.

An important note is that I don’t MAKE myself do anything with this practice.

I don’t HAVE to have only 3 items, or 1 item, or 4 cards.

As with any journaling practice, just observing how your mind works and the patterns that run your life is the valuable part — not whether or not you followed through like a good little soldier and checked all the boxes.

Reflections on the prior month

So much of the time we are running off to the next thing and don’t take time to reflect on where we have been, what we actually DID accomplish, and what we’ve learned.

It’s amazing how many of the intentions or goals I wrote down at the end of the month get left by the wayside. WTF?

Anyway, another benefit of reviewing your month getting to witness the patterns in the cards.

You get to tease out the tells that maybe you overlooked or misinterpreted.

Once again, this is not usually earth shattering insight, but insight nonetheless.

what if I’m kinda new to Tarot and don’t really know how to interpret the monthly spread?

No worries!

Just look at the picture on each card and describe exactly what you see. Write it down. And then give that scene a title.

3 women. 3 cups. A table with fruit. They are all wearing the same dress as if in a wedding party. Grape leaves. Nice hair pieces. Sunny day.

Title: a wedding party

After you have all the titles lined up, write down what this suggests about the month ahead for you.

Don’t overthink it! Just write it down, let it marinate, and come back to it a couple of times during the month and at the end of the month.

Witness the reading and write down the synchronicities you experience throughout the month.

My Monthly Spread for September

This month - Oooh, I like this! An elegant woman wearing my favorite color, purple, wearing a very nice ring. Her fingers are in a bowl of fruit. She looks like a fortune teller. The bird has a hood? He seems calm and quiet.

Title: Fruits of the harvest.

Biggest challenge - This echoes the eclipses of this month. A wheel spins turned by a hand emerging from the clouds. A king and queen struggle to keep their balance and the king tries not to spill a goblet. Someone has already been cast aside.

Title: Last one standing.

Biggest victory - A cloaked woman in a boat is being moved across a river. Six swords are before her in the boat. The weather is clear and the shore can be seen.

Title: Johanna, an immigrant’s tale.

Action - A guy with ivy on his head, kinda like a green man. His head protrudes next to 3 cups and a 4th one hangs in space in front of him offered by a hand in the clouds. The setting looks like a botanical garden. Kind of sterile and well maintained.

Title: Dream a little dream.

Summary: September seems to be a month of movement and a month of harvest. It seems like having a peaceful place of retreat is a good idea, as well as spending time in the dream world. Remember that your hard work up to this point is paying off now despite having to pick up and move and deal with disruptions.

Side note, I will be traveling this month, so the 6 of swords is appropriate.

I could weave more into this with what I have in my vocabulary for each of these cards, but I’ll leave it here for now.

Let me know what your September monthly pull looks like. I’d love to know!
