Hi there Tarot Friends, It's Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius. For me, that means I feel busy and rushed and full of ideas. Thanks Mercury! But sometimes it's a bit much. For you, maybe you are re-thinking the big picture. All perfect questions as we slide into the end of the year. Keep open to messages or messengers from afar -- which leads us into: Small Messengers. Big Mouths. The Tarot PagesHow to suss out what the Pages are really telling youThe Pages of the Tarot deck are usually depicted as young people. These plucky young folk deliver messages and give a heads up on things. When pages show up in a reading, they invite you to be curious, ask questions, gather information and go exploring around the suit they represent. All of this sounds pretty standard, but take a close look at the Page of Coins below.👇👇👇👇👇
For some reason, I wanted to include THIS Page from THIS deck. So much so that I scanned the image myself instead of swiping it off Pinterest. And there it was, the point I wanted to make—
Tarot Pages and MercuryAs a Tarot reader as well as an astrologer, I couldn’t help but notice that the pages bear a distinct resemblance to the planet Mercury. Mercury is youthful and quick, like a young person. Some of these pages are young enough to be androgynous, similar to Mercury.
Whenever the Pages come up in my readings I think about Mercury— His curiosity, his flexibility, his quick movements, his love of information.
Let’s carry the metaphor a little further and think about each individual page. 🪙Page of pentacles - Mercury in earth signs Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn 🪄Page of wands - Mercury in fire signs Leo, Aries and Sagittarius 🍷Page of cups - Mercury in water signs Pisces, Scorpio and Cancer ⚔️Page of swords - Mercury in air signs Aquarius, Libra and Gemini While I don’t like to lean on 1 to 1 correspondences between Tarot and any other system, I do think these overlaps can be helpful - especially when you are first starting out. Something to ponder… Delving further into the Pages of the Tarot, the Pages are green horns, newbies, or entry level positions. They are just starting out and learning the ropes. Keep this in mind when pages show up in a reading. Real Life Page - Kenneth Parcell of 30 Rock

Kenneth is the “greenhorn” - just starting out. He asks endless questions, and approaches the cutthroat world of television with wide-eyed wonder. As a Page, he runs endlessly between the characters of 30 Rock, delivering messages, delivering food and medicine, and reminding everyone of their obligations. He is the messenger of messengers and delivers bizarre and confusing news with unwavering earnestness and matter-of-factness. The message must go through! “Mr. Jordan wants to know if you can make a bomb out of a toilet paper tube and some old Cream of Wheat.”
When Pages show up in a reading yes it’s important to receive the message, but don’t forget to question the source! Pages are the messengers AND they are inexperienced. Just like the game of telephone, they might be passing along garbled or inaccurate information. Or they might be speaking from lack of experience. I don’t mean to imply that the Pages are silly or insignificant or that you should dismiss them. Just as Mercury can be a trickster, the Pages can mess with you too — At their best, the Pages (and Mercury as illustrated by my card choice) will deliver the right message just when you need it. 2️⃣Place that Page in front of you. 3️⃣Now pull a card unseen. 4️⃣What’s the message? Hope to see you over in the discussion over on Circle. If not, you can always hit reply and let me know how the exercise worked out for you. I'd love to know! -Cassandra the Card Reader |
