Hi there Tarot Friends, OMG! I finally moved and my head is still spinning. But I did manage to get the newsletter out. Enjoy! A 3-card spread isn’t small. Most people look for a spread the way you look for a recipe.
A spread is just a container. Once you decide what’s being compared, weighed, or revealed, the cards do the rest.
When readings feel fuzzy, it’s rarely because you “don’t know Tarot.” It’s usually because the question hasn’t been shaped tightly enough yet.
If you’re collecting Tarot spreads, you might be avoiding a more important skill.
-Not consciously.
-Not because you’re doing it “wrong.” It’s because spreads feel safer than sitting with a question long enough to frame it.
Peg the timing with just 3 cardsOh the dreaded timing question 🫣… The 3 card spread makes short work of timing questions. No fussing around with wands are days and swords are weeks BS. Example:When will I accept a contract on my house? [As a side note, my first question was when will my house sell. I realized this is too vague. Possible more specific questions are when will I close on the house, or the question I chose above. Crystal clear questions get crystal clear answers (usually 🤣).] I’ve got 3 cards to pull so I will pick 3 logical markers within a reasonable time frame. In this case: 60 days or less, 90 days, 120 days or more after listing.
Now, the trickiest part is to see which card looks most favorable in response to the question. The Hierophant in the 60 days or less slot is interesting because that is my soul card. That aside, I feel like it is talking about going through the process of selling a house. And I keep seeing title company… I do see it as favorable, but not a slam dunk. The 9 of cups in the 90 day position (indicating between 90 and 120 days) is very favorable. This is a card of satisfaction. This seems more favorable than the Hierophant. And it being a 9, indicates a culmination. The 3 of swords at 120+, not favorable so I will say it won’t take that long. So if I was advising someone on this I would say around 90 days, maybe even sooner, but no longer than 120 days. The key here is to look for cards that are favorable in terms of the question and to not get hung up up the myriad of “meanings” associated with the card. Weighing your optionsGot a choice to make? Back to my true to life house selling questions. At what price will I sell the quickest? I will set the 3 spread positions as: 179,900, 174,900 and 169,900.
Maybe you are catching on that the 3 card spread is kinda like a multiple choice test question. There is one option that you can eliminate immediately. In this case, it’s the 9 of wands at $169,900. Why? It just doesn’t fit. It’s a wand among 2 cups. Also it indicates some kind of fortitude and it doesn’t match with pricing low. Now the other two options are intriguing, like the previous spread. Both cards indicate a coming together and the cards themselves picture it. Will the connection happen? This applies to relationship questions:
Work questions:
The idea here is to lay a card for yourself and a card for the other person, the job, the house, the situation. The third card will be what’s between you and the thing in question. Example:I’m thinking of getting a reading from a particular person. Are they a good fit for what I need right now?
In this spread:
In the relationship spread we aren’t looking for the card that stands out. We are looking for how the cards interact. The Between CardThis makes the card between important. In this case we have the 4 of cups. On the surface, this is a card of not having a great connection. Boredom, emotional withdrawal. Take it or leave it. However, I’ve been pulling this card lately and it has been indicating neutral emotional charge as in staying calm and centered and neutral. No big emotions either way. That is something that I have been working on and striving for. In additionIt seems like the woman behind the tree has something sustaining to offer the boy under the tree.. Me and the readerMe and the reader “match” as we are both Knights - action oriented and ready to get moving on something. Of course each of these knights has a different approach: Knight of wands - Sagittarian vibe. Big ideas, big philosophy, loving adventure and travel. Knight of cups - Piscean vibe. Mystical, maybe delusional, sensitive and poetic. Idealistic in the least, and dreaming the impossible dream. Do I see these Knights as warring? No. Just different approaches. Do we see eye to eye?One quick way to gauge connection is to use the Lenormand concept of directionality. That is, are the people in the cards looking at each other or away from each other. I don’t use directionality to 100% determine the answer, but it is something to take note of. In this case, the 2 people in question are not looking at each other. That means not connecting. The verdictIn this case, I would ask clarifying questions and pull another card or two. But I don’t want to get into that here. If I had to call it on the 3 cards alone, I’d say table it for now and revisit in a week or 2. But for now it’s a no. -Cassandra the Card Reader |
