Hi there Tarot Friends, How you grow as a Tarot readerLevel 1 - Dictionaries Level 2 - Position Level 3 - Integration The Majority of budding Tarot readers get stuck at level 1If you feel like you're stuck at level 1 it's not your fault! The Tarot space is flooded with guides that make you think you just need to cram your brain full of definitions. That's only level ONE. And besides, it's not giving Tarot enough credit. After dancing with these cards for 3 decades now, I can tell you that Tarot has way more mystery, way more magic, and way more punch than a bunch of memorized meanings. Think about it, learning ANY skill is like climbing a mountain. You gotta crawl before you walk. So let's talk about a level THREE skill (card blending) through the lens of 5 Tarot card pairs that are like oil and water. The following examples will get you started dancing with Tarot in 3D instead of stale, black and white definitions. 5 Pairs of Tarot Cards that don't mixOkay these cards don't really HATE each other. But in certain contexts or scenarios they don't blend well. So let's talk about that. 6 of cups and Ace of swordsThe 6 of cups can be a very nostalgic card, always looking back to the good old days. If nothing else, it focuses on the pleasure principle and the emotional status quo. So when up against the Ace of swords, which is opening up a new perspective, the 6 of cups says no thank you. The Ace of swords is saying there's an opportunity to be more discerning and objective about how we are viewing things, while the 6 of cups just wants to put on our favorite album from high school and talk to an old friend on the phone. 9 of swords and 10 of swordsThe 9 of swords indicates negative thought patterns running amok. From incessant worrying, to reliving past trauma, to just obsessing over something, the 9 of swords just doesn't want to let us live in peace. And it's all in our heads, by the way. The 10 of swords, on the other hand, is all about letting go and surrender. It's over. Put an end to it. It's about how you frame the loss not the loss itself. The release has to happen before the new thing can come. That makes the 9 and 10 of swords at odds with each other. The Lovers and 8 of cupsThis card pair could exist within the context of a relationship. Yes the Lovers is about relationships. It's also about forks in the road and choices with consequences. Relationships, while they involve 2 people, are anything but simple. They can be quite complicated. And the 8 of cups decides to go off on it's own path. LOVERS: Whenever things get hard, you leave. 8 OF CUPS: I need some alone time. It's great to be on your own path, but it can be tricky business when you're in a relationship! Ace of pentacles and 9 of cupsThe Ace of pentacles offers a doorway to some stability. The 9 of cups can be a Goodtime Charley. ACE OF PENTACLES: Maybe you should look for a job 9 OF CUPS: I'm just livin' my life man, don't harsh my mellow. The 9 of cups is about law of attraction - envision your goal and feel the feelings. The Ace of pentacles asks you to take tangible action toward your goal. It takes both to make the Law of Attraction work. These two cards can work beautifully together, with the positivity and joy of the 9 feeding into the material success promised by the Ace of pentacles. Or, they can be at odds when the road goes on forever and the party never ends. The Devil and the Hanged ManPart of the domain of the Devil is the lies we tell ourselves. These lies hold us back and keep us stuck. The Hanged Man indicates a stuck position as well. One of the legends of the Hanged Man is that he is voluntarily taking a stance of inaction, just hanging, motionless until the go signal or the wisdom he seeks appears. The Devil card likes to play the victim. The Hanged Man enters rehab or the silent retreat under his own power. These cards are 2 sides of the same coin in some sense. I hope this visit with Tarot cards that hate each other has helped you become the Tarot reader of your dreams. -Cassandra the Card Reader |
