Hi there Tarot Friends, Busy week ahead! By the time you read this we will have just had the solar eclipse in Aquarius and the start of Fire Horse according to the Chinese calendar. The road is opening up but we don't know what to make of it yet. At least I don't! We will have one more eclipse in early March, so once the dust settles maybe I'll have more to say. But for now, maybe this week's newsletter will give you food for thought. Your Tarot biz is Cursed! When I started my Tarot biz back in 2012, I didn’t start with private clients. I’d book parties and events. Most new readers think they need to: ❌offer free readings on Instagram ❌undercharge ❌read for friends and family first ❌spend money for a booth at a psychic fair that they may not earn back ❌work for California Psychics and get paid peanuts ❌build confidence first ❌wait until they feel ready Party reading skips all that. 👉You get hired with the price negotiated beforehand. 👉You show up with your cards. 👉You read for 10, 20, 30 people. 👉You leave with cash in hand or with money in your cash app I’ve earned $580 in less than 5 hours in the month of February. My Tarot party side hustle is just that. A side hustle. And I love it!
Why reading at parties is easier than 1:1 sessionsFirst of all, parties and events have way more leverage. I can charge more per hour than I do for a 1:1 reading, and I don’t feel the least bit guilty about it! Second, most people assume party readings are all fluff, unserious, and maybe even fake. They assume 1 on 1 readings are the “real work”. But here’s the real truth. Private sessions carry weight for both reader and client. Most clients (myself included) sit down with the unspoken expectation that this reading might change their life. That’s a lot of pressure even for experienced readers. At a party the energy is lighter. The people who sit down in front of me lead with curiosity not crisis. Most people I read for have never had a reading before and walk away delighted. The host paid for them and they are open to receive whatever shows up (for the most part). Readings don’t have to be serious to be life changing.
The Introvert advantage no one talks aboutParties and events are the easy button for an introvert like me. I get paid to attend a party AND 👍I don’t have to enter a room of strangers and wonder if I should approach someone or hang back. 👍I don’t need to mingle 👍or circulate 👍or get past my inhibitions. I set up my table and party guests approach me. And what’s even better is I get to have very intimate conversations with people over the cards. That’s gold to me. No boring small talk!
Get paid to practiceRepetition builds confidence. Party readings are the ultimate practice field or laboratory. You read quickly. There’s no time to self flagellate over what you said or didn’t say. You learn something.
You learn to trust the first thingYou see a symbol. No time to censor. Real data instead of overthinking itMost of us spend way too much time thinking about readings. Should I use a 3-card spread? At parties, you get to try it. Now you’ve got data! Real world experience!
Learn to read the person AND the cardsWhen reading off the cuff, especially for someone who has never had a reading before, you get to see how people react to information. You get to see what lands You get to sniff out the question behind the question. Someone says: But what they mean is: Party readings sharpen that radar fast —
Increase your rangeAt parties you encounter all kinds of people— Not only is this fascinating, but you learn how to interact and be helpful to a broad range of people. The skeptic. You learn to quickly determine what’s important to this person and how you can help.
This is the easy button no one talks aboutLet the expensive one on one sessions come later. Or not at all. (Have you ever noticed the first thing to go with popular/successful readers is 1 on 1 sessions? Hmmm…) So what I’m saying is don’t start the hard way. Sometimes the “less serious” and fun path is the one that cuts through the traffic jam.
